If there’s anything we know about Thanksgiving, it’s that it is a time to be thankful for all of the blessing that we have in our lives. One blessing that may get overlooked is a healthy smile, but our mouths are not only the first thing someone notices when we meet them, but they are our front line of defense when it comes to a lot of our general health. So, let’s go over ways you can keep that grin of yours bright and healthy in between dental checkups:
Brush for two minutes twice a day. Many of us brush, but not the two minutes that is recommended in order to reach every part of your mouth, including your tongue and the roof of your mouth.
Floss every day. Flossing helps remove particles stuck between your teeth, where toothbrushes can’t reach. If you floss regularly, the odds of gum disease will go down dramatically.
Chew sugar-free gum. If you’re always on the go, a toothbrush isn’t always handy. If that’s the case, pop in a stick of sugar-free chewing gum to help stimulate the production of saliva, which is your body’s natural defense against tooth decay.
Visit the dentist regularly. Regular checkups and cleanings are crucial to your dental, and overall, health. Studies show a link between bacterial oral infections traveling and spreading throughout the whole body.
If you have kids, start them early. The sooner they understand this is a daily routine, the less likely dental appointments will end up with a poor report card.
